Box Bar Vineyard, CO

Nestled on a 13-acre plot on the slopes of the Sleeping Ute Mountain and 100 yards above the Yucca House National Monument, Box Bar Vineyard is a place steeped in history and deep connection to the land. At 6,000 ft elevation, this is one of Colorado's highest vineyard sites currently planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Riesling. This is not just a vineyard; it is a place where the past and present come together, a place where a dream took root amidst the rich cultural and natural heritage of the area.

The land itself holds echoes of those who once called this region home. Estimated to be the site of a thriving community of over 18,000 Puebloan people, the vineyard sits directly above what was once a lively settlement. Though the vineyard remains un-excavated, the past is never far from reach. The ground is speckled with ancient Anasazi pottery shards, remnants of lives lived long ago, and the rows of vines are gently planted over a kiva—a sacred, dug-out meeting place used by the indigenous peoples of the region. It is a place of deep reverence and respect, where the spirit of the land calls for care and stewardship.

We understand the importance of honoring the history that came before us and are committed to farming regeneratively, ensuring that the land we steward continues to thrive for generations to come. We use no sprays or harmful chemicals, and every vine is hand-picked, with the utmost care taken in every step of the winemaking process. This vineyard is not just a site for growing grapes—it is a living testament to the resilience of the land and the wisdom of past inhabitants who understood the importance of harmony with nature

What started as a dream for this vineyard has grown into a reality, a testament to the land’s potential to produce wines with both complexity and soul. While we will always honor the land’s heritage we look forward to what the future brings and the stories our wines will tell.
